Remuda Ranch provides inpatient and residential programs for women and girls suffering from Anorexia, Bulimia, other Eating Disorders, and related issues. Our Christian programs offer Hope & Healing to patients of all beliefs.

Intensive Inpatient Programs for Anorexia and Bulimia

The Intensive Inpatient Programs at Remuda Ranch offer residents the opportunity to begin recovery in a relaxed, peaceful setting. Our ranch settings allow for a broad range of activities, including a full equestrian program, as part of our individualized programs. Although our facilities are non-institutional, our highly skilled medical team provides the safety and security of a traditional hospital.

Only women and girls suffering from anorexia, bulimia and related issues are treated in our intensive inpatient programs. This creates a safe, nurturing environment where residents are surrounded by peers who are overcoming similar issues. In addition, we provide three distinct programs for adult women, adolescent girls and children, ensuring that each resident receives age-appropriate treatment.

Professional Care

Treatment TeamEach inpatient resident receives the highest level of care, 24 hours a day. She is treated by our compassionate team of professionals, who specialize in treating patients with anorexia and bulimia. The professionals at each of our programs are specifically trained for the particular age group they treat.

  • A primary Care Provider closely evaluates her physical health.
  • A Psychiatric Care Provider offers psychiatric oversight and the monitoring of medications to help stabilize her mental health.
  • A Psychologist provides psychometric testing and diagnostic services to assist with treatment planning and group therapy.
  • A Masters Level Therapist meets with her one-on-one and in group sessions to discover the causes of her eating disorder.
  • A Registered Dietitian develops an individualized meal plan to meet her nutritional requirements.
  • A team of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Mental Health Technicians, who are on staff 24 hours per day, ensure an atmosphere of consistency, nurturance, safety and accountability.
  • An Education Coordinator assists each girl with her individual academic needs (adolescent and children’s programs).

Program Components

Remuda Ranch utilizes a variety of therapies to break through to the root causes of the eating disorder. They are implemented within a therapeutic milieu, offering each resident the opportunity to understand and deal with her significant emotional and behavioral issues in a safe, highly structured and supportive peer group environment. All therapies occur within a cognitive behavioral framework and are based on Biblical Christianity.

Length of Stay

In order to give every resident the best possible chance for a complete and permanent recovery, the minimum stay for an adult is 45 to 60 days, and for an adolescent or child is 60 days. We believe this represents the necessary amount of time to stop the eating disorder behaviors, address the underlying issues of the eating disorder, and provide appropriate tools for residents and their families to live healthy, productive lives.

Family Involvement

Family involvement is a critical part of the recovery process for women and girls suffering from anorexia or bulimia. Our children and adolescents have weekly therapeutic telephone sessions with their parents and all residents participate in Family Week, which occurs approximately half way through their stay. Additional family therapy visits may be provided at our Children’s program, depending on clinical need. Family Week is 40 hours of intensive group therapy where the healing process between family members begins. Specialized therapists work with families to improve communication and mutual understanding. Families learn more about eating disorders and how to be supportive when their loved one returns home.

Relapse Prevention and Aftercare

Residents participate in classes that teach them how to avoid returning to eating disorder behaviors after treatment. They learn how to identify the signs of relapse and how to cope with life stress in a healthy way. Remuda’s relapse prevention specialists assist each resident in creating her individual aftercare plan to develop effective support at home. This plan includes extensive resource materials as well as a treatment team for ongoing care. In addition, follow-up telephone calls are provided for two years following treatment.

Academic Services
(Adolescent and Children’s Programs)

We recognize the need for young people to continue their academic studies while in treatment. Our education coordinators make arrangements with each resident’s school to ensure this occurs. All Remuda education coordinators are certified teachers. Each resident meets regularly with her coordinator to plan and complete her individualized curriculum. In addition, adequate study time is set aside in her daily schedule.
