Remuda Ranch provides inpatient and residential programs for women and girls suffering from Anorexia, Bulimia, other Eating Disorders, and related issues. Our Christian programs offer Hope & Healing to patients of all beliefs.

Anorexia Bulimia Eating Disorder Treatment

Ten million women and girls have eating disorders. Up to one million will die from their disorder. Think of it – up to one million women and girls … dead. It’s time to recognize that anorexia or bulimia is not a diet … it’s a disease, and as such, treatment is required.

Since 1990, Remuda Programs for Eating Disorders has treated nearly 8,000 women and girls suffering from anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. And with great success. A full 95% of patients remain in recovery after discharge, an outcome that appears unmatched by any other treatment center in the world.

Throughout the years, we have refined our residential programs with one goal in mind: true recovery for all patients. We want every woman and girl to receive the help she needs, then return home, changed. We want her free from anorexia or bulimia, free to experience a healthy relationship with food and exercise; we want her to reconnect with family and friends; we want her simply to have the opportunity to fully embrace her life … work, go to school, get married, have children.

Patients come to Remuda Ranch for 45-60 days because that’s what it takes for effective and lasting change to occur. All treatment is based on a bio-psycho-social-spiritual framework. This means we don’t just treat a disorder, we treat the entire person: mind, body and spirit.

Remuda Ranch is intentionally Christian; we extend love, care and compassion to individuals of all beliefs. Our facilities are located in peaceful non-traditional settings in the scenic desert of Arizona and the lush countryside of Virginia. Because their needs are different, we provide distinct programs for children, adolescents and adults.

Each patient has a team of professionals to help her understand why she got the eating disorder and how to recover from it. These include a primary care provider, psychologist, therapist, psychiatrist, dietitian and nurses. Since 99% of eating disorder patients have additional medical or psychiatric problems, our professional staff also helps her with such issues as depression, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, substance abuse or trauma. Along with individual and group therapy, patients engage in experiential therapies such as art, body image, equine and challenge course.

Family involvement is a key component of Remuda treatment. Therapy is conducted during weekly phone calls and family members come to Remuda for Family Week, which is an important time of healing, growth and change.

As our patients improve, we prepare. We prepare for success by holding relapse-prevention classes, so each woman and girl can identify the risk factors associated with relapse. Patients also meet with aftercare coordinators to make sure a team of professionals is in place to provide outpatient treatment after leaving Remuda. In the instance that a patient requires some additional support, we offer a transitional program, Remuda LIFE.

When outpatient care isn’t enough, why choose treatment at Remuda? That’s easy: because it works. Today, thousands of women and girls are not only alive, but actually living life to its fullest because anorexia, bulimia or another eating disorder is now part of their past.
